Canvas Compromise
5/8/26; 11:50 am
We continue to monitor the security incident with Instructure/Canvas. Instructure believes the Canvas learning management system is now secure and operational. In an abundance of caution, the University of California has requested third-party certification that the system is safe for users and that data within the system has not been altered or destroyed. Instructure has also posted a security incident update and FAQ online.
Please continue to avoid accessing Canvas through the web or mobile app until further notice. We are working to fully restore Canvas, but even if service appears to be available, please wait for official university communication confirming security and stability before attempting to access the system again.
We understand that the impact to students and instructors is significant. Our goal is to restore service as soon as possible while ensuring that the system is safe and secure.

We continue to closely monitor the security incidents involving Instructure/Canvas. Out of an abundance of caution, access to Canvas is being temporarily redirected. Single Sign-On has also been disconnected from Canvas to prevent any authentication attempts.
Remain vigilant and exercise caution regarding potential phishing attempts. Watch for unexpected messages that seem to come from UC. The university will never ask for passwords, Social Security numbers, birthdates or bank account information through email, text or phone calls.

Our vendor Instructure/Canvas has been compromised and is currently unavailable. This issue is impacting institutions and users globally and we are actively monitoring the status of the situation.
At this time, please DO NOT attempt to access Canvas in any way until further notice. If you are currently in the system, do not click on any links; just close your browser.
We recognize that this disruption will affect academic programs. Students should wait for instructions from their instructors on temporary measures for submitting course assignments and accessing materials until this situation can be resolved.
Educational Continuity
Instructors of record have been sent a campus notice with suggestions on steps that should be taken to maintain learning continuity for their students. A list of Educational Continuity Resources is also available for instructors.
Additional updates will be provided to the campus as more information becomes available.
